Subject: Light, slim, and sexy

i had never owned a Mac. i only used them at school and occasionally in
lab, where there still seems to be a stronghold of Mac users. but most
people i know are pc users. and when microsoft came up with windows, on
the surface it didn’t seem like there was much difference between pc’s
and macs.

but then my friend steph bought a PowerBook G4. i had some fellowship
money to buy a computer, and as soon as i saw her G4, i knew i’d have to
make the switch. the last computer i owned was a gateway i bought my
freshman year of college, almost 7 years ago! i had a lot of anxiety
about buying a Mac. issues ranged from software compatibility to owning
a computer with only 5% market share.

but now i love my Mac, and i love OS X. just yesterday i used my AirPort
card for the first time in a coffeeshop — it was seamless — and i got a
huge kick out of surfing the net wireless. i watch episodes of Alias
using QuickTime, burn CDs for friends in iTunes, organize pics using
iPhoto, Hotsync my PDA using the new Palm Desktop — now that the
computer has become a form of entertainment for my generation, who wants
to sit in front of a boring screen and lug around a bulky and ugly
laptop? the G4 is light, slim, and sexy — i have been stopped in cafes
by envious strangers. and of course i use my computer in lab to download
papers, make presentations, and organize data using the new Photoshop.
it was all incredibly easy to set up despite the fact that i am not
techno-savvy.
