Subject: ”Why, I have an eMac!”

I have been working for a company that provides phone technical support
for Microsoft operating systems. I have supported Windows 95, Windows
98, Windows 98SE, Windows Millennium, and both flavors of Windows XP. I
am starting my seventh year.

When I started working for that company, I did have a Mac for a couple
of years. I LOVED my Mac. I used it for designing books and doing some
prepress work. And I used it for FUN. I don’t believe I ever had to
speak to Apple Technical Support while I owned that Mac.

I also had a Sony Vaio computer with Windows 95 installed on it. The
Sony recovery disk was used quite frequently to get that machine to keep
working. I was constantly on the phone with Sony and arguing with them
because the only way they claimed they could fix anything was to run the
recovery disk. I used that PC to gain empathy for the customers that
called me for tech support. And I used it to learn about all the ways
that error messages could occur and why.

I lost both of those computers to a bad set of circumstances at about
the same time.

I have had a couple of years to think about getting another computer. I
leaned toward getting a PC because I thought it might be helpful to have
a machine that broke all the time so I could again use my experiences to
help my customers.

But, you know, when it came right down to it, I thought, haven’t you had
enough of this PC business for the last six years? Don’t you want your
home computer experience to be fun and trouble-free? I had to answer yes
to myself. So yesterday, I went out and bought an eMac. I love it!!!

I am one of those people who hate reading the instructions. I had my Mac
up and running within 15 minutes. And I didn’t even have to open the
User’s Manual.

I now look forward to the times when some customers will ask, “So, what
kind of a computer do you have at home?” It will be with much pleasure
and glee to answer, “Why, I have an eMac!”
