In today's Boston Globe Simpson R. Garfinkel asked:

"Why is it so fashionable to hate Microsoft?" The answer he gave: "after 
spending most of last Saturday afternoon reformatting my computer's hard 
drive, reinstalling my copy of Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 3), and 
reinstalling a dozen or so applications that I use on a daily basis - and 
then doing it all again - I'm increasingly convinced the hatred stems 
from the poordesign of Microsoft's operating systems."

He says he has to do this too frequently and knows this would not be 
necessary with a Mac.
