Apparently DirectX5, created by Microsoft to make games run better, is causing problems. A few tidbits from the article: "The collection of software components aims to let programmers write games that run better on Windows. Instead, it's trashing computers." "In many cases DirectX5 is loaded into your machine without warning. It happened to me not once but twice. The end result? Six hours of desperate loading, unloading, reinstalling and recalibrating."
